I went to Brusters for "dinner" tonight. They make the very best banana split sundaes EVER. They are seriously the greatest tasting thing on earth.

swamp cake

I bought this the last time I was in Savannah to give as a gift, but for some reason I couldn't part with it, so when Tropical Storm Faye hit us yesterday I decided that it was Swamp Cake Time!!!

Nothing beats a Swamp Cake! ;D

sweets 'n treats

Long time, no post. But for good reasons... #1 I haven't been home much lately and #2 (other than myself) my household is dieting, so I have been banned from baking treats like I would like to... bummer.

I've been taking a series of mini-vacations this summer all over the southeast US. I just got back from an almost week-long trip to the west coast of Florida. There is so much yummy food to eat over there! Scrump-didilly-umptious!

The photo above is just one of the super-yummy places that I found, and let me tell you-- this photo doesn't do this little candy & ice cream shop justice-- it was so adorable! I got a raspberry ice cream cone and an assortment of candy. It was totally delish!!! I'm going to Jacksonville this next week... I'm excited to see what treats are in store up there. :)

cherry limeade

In an attempt to replicate my favorite drink from Sonic I made homemade cherry limeade yesterday afternoon. I used a can of Sprite, a whole lime, maraschino cherries and some of their juice from their jar. I ended up adding a little cherry flavoring from my snowcone maker as well. It didn't taste as great as Sonic's but it was close enough to really enjoy. :)

strawberry shortcake

I made another batch of Strawberry Shortcake since everyone seems to enjoy eating it so much. :)

Not counting chilling the berries, I can make and bake a Strawberry Shortcake in less than 40 minutes now... which is why I try to keep fresh berries on hand at all times for short-notice surprise guests. It's a perfect treat to serve.

I posted photos of the cake yesterday on Flickr and someone asked if it could be made into a vegan recipe. Well, the strawberries are already perfect (only sugar and water are added to them), add in a vegan vanilla cake, and top if off with either coconut milk whipped cream or vegan whipped cream and voilà! A perfect vegan treat.

I've been a lacto-ovo-vegetarian for over ten years, haven't eaten red meat since 1994, and I have a great respect for vegans. Speaking of which, please check out my sweet friend Melisser's fantastic blog The Urban Housewife for all kinds of great vegan treats. She rocks!!!

My sister April has always been an avid collector of 'Found Photos,' she lovingly refers to it as "adopting an ancestor." She also got me into the hobby, but while she collects vintage (1800s-1960s) glamour, beauty and female portraits I collect more kitschy and pop culture photos from the aforementioned eras. My favorites being partys, holidays and vacation photos.

I loooooooove old photos of birthday parties, halloween parties and costumes, Christmas morning shots, vintage kitchens, cakes, toys, themeparks, Polaroids, photobooth, and other amazing photos that POP!

These three photos were found of a girl in the 1950s. The first shot is her at one of her grand soirees with all of her guests. Whatta a cake!

The second is the same girl before her party on a different year. Again-- look at that cake! :D

And last but not least are some of her guests playing Pin the Tail On The Donkey. Check out that little lad looking around the corner. It doesn't look like he's having a very good time. ;D
